Fire Damages Portable Classroom

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 FIRE DAMAGES PORTABLE SCHOOL CLASSROOM Mobile Fire Investigators are investigating a fire that damaged a portable classroom located behind the main school building of Azalea Road Middle School, located at 3800 Pleasant Valley Road. The fire was reported from a nearby business at approximately 5:27 a.m. Friday morning, June 16, 2000. Firefighters arrived at approximately 5:34 a.m. and reported fire coming from one end of the one story, wood frame portable classroom. Firefighters contained the fire quickly at its point of origin. The fire appears to have originated in the southwest corner of the structure on or near a desk. Evidence indicates a break-in and Fire Investigators recovered evidence to indicate the fire was intentional set. Damage is estimated at over $5,000. No injuries were reported. Engines 19, 22, 23, truck 5, rescue 23 and Acting District 4 Chief Captain Alex Treiner responded. There had been a fire at the same location involving another portable classroom that was destroyed by fire on April 30, 2000. That fire was reported after 2 p.m. Evidence indicates that that fire was also intentionally set. There are no suspects in either fire at this time.
