Fire Damages Local Body Repair Shop

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE DAMAGES LOCAL BODY REPAIR SHOP Firefighters were called to reports of smoke coming from Professional Collision, located at 1040 Schillinger Road, South, late Wednesday evening, February 6. The call was received from a passerby at approximately 8:50 p.m. who reported seeing smoke coming from the roof vents of the single story brick commercial building. When firefighters arrived they reported heavy smoke inside the secured building. Firefighters forced entry into the building, extinguished the fire and discovered a vehicle inside the structure was on fire and four others damaged by the fire. Fire Investigators determined the fire started in a 2000 Ford F-150 pick-up truck which was totaled by the fire. Four other vehicles inside received radiant heat damage from the fire. The building received heavy smoke damage. The owner of the business told fire investigators that the truck had arrived at approximately 5 p.m. which damage to the rear bumper and tailgate and they had not yet started work on it. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire caused an estimated $100 thousand in damage. No injuries were reported. Engines 1, 6, 29, truck 5, rescue 6 and District 3 Chief Robert Thornton responded to the fire. ###
