Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE CHIEF MAKES PROMOTION At promotion ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2002 held at Central Fire Station, Mobile Fire Chief Stephen Dean promoted Fire Captain James Franklin Byrd to the position of Fire District Chief. Byrd, 37, a 16 year veteran joined the department on March 4, 1985 and was promoted to the position of Captain on August 5, 1995. Byrd has currently been assigned to the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Division of the department. Byrd will be reassigned as shift supervisor in the 3rd District, 2nd shift located at Station 18, at 700 Museum Drive. Byrd will supervise 6 stations and 10 companies which has approximately 42 firefighters and firemedics assigned. ###
