Fire Causes Heavy Damage to House

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE CAUSES HEAVY DAMAGE TO HOUSE Mobile Firefighters responded to the report of a house fire located on Acacia Street at approximately 2:18 a.m. Friday, September 10. When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof. All four occupants had escaped without apparent injury prior to firefighter’s arrival. As firefighters made entry into the front door they encountered heavy heat and smoke conditions and as they proceeded further into the single story, wood frame structure they encountered heavy fire conditions. The fire was discovered by one of the occupants. The fire appears to have originated in the area of a utility room spreading through the roof, kitchen and living room. The remainder of the house suffered heavy thermal and smoke damage causing an estimated $30 thousand in damage to both the structure and contents. The cause remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. Engines 12, 15, 23, truck 17, rescue 23 and District Chief LeAnn Tacon responded. ###
