February Firefighter of the Month

Feb 28th, 2007

February 28, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2007-17) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FEBRUARY FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH Jermaine Goosby, 35, has been a firefighter with Mobile Fire-Rescue Department for 6 years and is assigned to station 14 in the Toulminville area and has been selected as the February Firefighter of the Month. Recently Goosby and his crew were dispatched to a fire in the 800 block of Wellington Street. When they arrived there was heavy fire and smoke showing from the structure. Goosby grabbed a hoseline and began to pull it around the back of the structure for the rear attack (unburned to burned). After recognizing there was no rear entrance he brought the line back around to make entry through the front door. The fire was growing and pushing to the front door. Although the intensity of the fire was increasing and the flames were driving outside the door, Goosby did not hesitate in opening the nozzle and begin the attack on the fire. He and another crew member entered the apartment and the fire was quickly brought under control. Some may say Goosby was doing nothing more than his job, doing what he is paid to do, doing what is expected of him. But the Supervisor felt that the job done was worthy of praise and recognition. He further stated that Goosby has demonstrated nothing more than a professional demeanor both at the station and on the emergency scene. Goosby is a credit to his Company and the department and his actions are deserving of recognition. The Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club who sponsors the monthly event honored Firefighter-Jermaine Goosby at a breakfast on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Tiny Diny Restaurant. ###
