Father and Son Die in Mobile Home Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FATHER AND SON DIE IN MOBILE HOME FIRE A father and son were killed by a fire in their mobile home late Sunday evening, January 10. Mobile Fire-Rescue Dispatchers received a call from 9-1-1 at approximately 11:28 p.m. reporting the fire located at 9155C Dawes Lane, North. When firefighters arrived they reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the mobile home and what sounded like an explosion. Firefighters made entry and began to combat the flames. Another member of the crew went down a hallway and discovered the father age 68 in a crouched position on the south end of the home in a bathroom. He was brought out with what appeared to be a burn to the forehead and heavy soot around the face and nose. Firemedics began treatment and transported him to Providence Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Firefighters returned inside and discovered the son believed to be in his 40’s in a living room-den area. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Andra Dese, 35, told Mobile Fire Investigators that she was a friend of the younger victim and that he had ask her to come over last night to assist with his dad. Dese told investigators that she and the victim were outside smoking when he went back inside the home and apparently discovered the fire and was attempting to get his father out. Dese stated she called 9-1-1 at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the mobile home was a total loss. No other injuries were reported. Engines 6, 22, 29, truck 5, rescue 29 and District Chief Ron Morgan and members of the Theodore Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. The fire is being investigated by the Bureau of Fire Prevention with assistance from Mobile Police I.D. Unit and Homicide Unit. The autopsy will be performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. ###
