The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department proudly recognizes Captain Dwight Smith as the Firefighter of the Month for November 2023. Smith was hired in 1998 and currently serves as a Public Education Officer in the Community Risk Reduction Division.
Captain Smith’s educational efforts through the years have reached thousands of people. During his tenure, the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department has distributed and installed more than 10,000 smoke alarms throughout the community.
Smith said his goal is to eliminate all injuries and fatalities from fire. He has brought educational materials to people of all ages and has worked hard to teach life safety and CPR to community groups and businesses.
His engaging and upbeat speaking style have left an impression on the recipients of his outreach. His lessons on fire-safety, kitchen safety, first aid, and emergency response make the entire community a safer place to live and work.
“We have a class for every age and every type of business,” he said. “I try to leave everything on the table when I speak.”
He was recently voted president of Alabama Coalition of Community Risk Education Educators.
