Convenience Store Fire Under Investigation

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org CONVENIENCE STORE FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION The cause of an overnight fire in the Speedy Road Runner convenience store located at 2551 Old Shell Road remains under investigation this afternoon. A caller reporting the fire at approximately 12:23 a.m. Wednesday, January 20 told Mobile Fire-Rescue Dispatchers he could see flames and smoke coming from the single story brick structure. Firefighters arrived within two minutes reporting flames showing from the side and roof of the structure. Firefighters forced entry into the building and discovered fire in what appears to be an office area. The cause of the fire that caused an estimated $120 thousand in damage remains under investigation. No injuries were reported. Engines 12, 15, 23, truck 10, rescue 23 and District Chief Aubrey Bishop responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the cause. ###
