MOBILE, Ala. - Early and effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and auto-external defibrillation (AED) interventions by three ABB Inspection Services employees helped save the life of their co-worker and colleague. At approximately 10:42 hours on Monday, March 18th, Engine 19 was dispatched for a “sick call” to ABB Inspection Services. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel noticed ABB employees performing CPR on a downed patient.
Captain Vincent Dumas immediately requested advanced life support (ALS) backup for a witnessed cardiac arrest. According to employees on scene, their co-worker complained of not feeling well just prior to leaning onto a nearby desk and experiencing cardiac arrest. While MFRD crews were en route to the scene, Murray Vinson, Mark McGowan, and Doug Brown performed quality chest compressions, promptly retrieved an on-site AED, making proper connections, and even shocked their downed co-worker once.
Engine 19 and Rescue 19 arrived on scene to assume care of the patient and transported to a local hospital. Thanks to their prompt action, their co-worker has since been released from hospital care, is in stable condition, and home recovering.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is proud to recognize Murray Vinson, Mark McGowan, and Doug Brown for their efforts and present to them a Civilian Life Saving Award. Job well done, gentlemen!
