Boat Fire in Dry Dock

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org BOAT FIRE IN DRY DOCK Mobile firefighters responded to the report of a boat fire in dry dock at approximately 3:38 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 17. The fire occurred at Southern Marina, located at 4514 Dauphin Island Parkway. Engine 20 arrived on scene first, reporting fire and smoke coming from the boat on dry land. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly without incident. According to the representatives with the company, they were conducting cutting operations inside the boat and caught some insulation on fire. They attempted to extinguish the fire by using a back hoe and dipping water from the canal and pouring it onto the boat. No injuries were reported and no damage estimate is available. Engines 9, 16, 20; trucks 17, 24; rescues 7, 24; fire boat 2 and District Chiefs Marquis James and LeAnn Tacon responded. ###
