At approximately 22:45 hours on Monday, June 1, 2020, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies responded to 5345 Hwy 90 (formerly Bangkok Thai Cuisine) for reports of flames showing at the site of the commercial building. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel confirmed the single-story structure was “fully-involved” and engulfed in flames.
Fire suppression teams established defensive strategies in efforts to douse flames from the exterior of the building. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish flames within approximately 25 minutes.
The structure was vacant at the time of the incident. No firefighters or civilians were injured at the scene.
By the time MFRD crews arrived on scene (approximately 22:49 hours), 3rd and 4th squad officers from Mobile Police Department’s 2nd Precinct had detained a potential suspect, obtained a witness to the event, and secured possible evidence for MFRD Fire Investigators.
Through the course of the investigation, the cause of the fire was determined to have been intentionally set. On Tuesday, June 2, 2020, 46-year-old Robert Joseph Eddins was arrested and charged with Arson 2nd. Eddins has been booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail.
