MOBILE, Ala. – At approximately 16:46 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies were dispatched to the 2300 block of Ashland Place Avenue for reports of smoke visible from a 2-story, residential structure following a lightning strike. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel confirmed smoke and flames present in the attic of the home.
A 2nd-alarm was requested at approximately 16:54 hours, sending additional suppression, search, and rehabilitation crews to the scene. All occupants safely evacuated the home prior to MFRD arrival on scene. Fire crews battled flames for more than 2 hours, ensuring that all signs of fire were fully extinguished. The structure was adequately ventilated of all hazardous smoke and toxic gases.
No injuries were sustained during the incident. Fire Investigators confirm the cause of the fire as accidental, stemming from a lightning strike to the roof of the home.
