Arson Arrest Made in
Hathcox Street Fire
Mobile, AL – At approximately 10:07 hours on Friday, November 2nd, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department crews were dispatched to the 2000 block of Hathcox Street. Neighbors reported flames and smoke visible from a single family dwelling. Upon arrival on scene, fire personnel confirmed a working house fire and were able to control the scene and quickly extinguish flames. The residential structure was unoccupied at the time, and no fire personnel were injured during the incident. Fire Investigators interviewed neighbors and reviewed the scene to determine a cause of the fire, at which time, potential ignition sites were noted inside the home.
The Hathcox Street fire analysis led Fire Investigators to Prichard Police, who were reviewing a suspicious vehicle fire on St. Stephens Road very soon after MFRD companies were dispatched to the residential fire on Hathcox Street. Mobile Fire-Rescue Investigators determined the cause of the fire to have been incendiary. The investigation revealed 36-year-old Latarius Treon Richard as the perpetrator in the Hathcox Street residential fire as well as the St. Stephens Road vehicle fire. On November 6th, Richard was taken into custody and booked into Metro Jail on a charge of Arson 2nd.
