April 26, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2007-27) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org APRIL FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH April’s Firefighter of the Month is Captain Sherry Crush, 34, has been with the department for over 9 years and is assigned to the Homeland Security-Special Ops Division. Crush was nominated after volunteering to take on the task of putting together a class, evaluating and teaching ten classes at 3 hours per class for the emergency department, security and maintenance employees at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center regarding the proper use of the hospitals decontamination trailer and equipment. Crush worked hard and put in countless hours evaluating the hospitals system, making recommendations and developing and implementing an effective plan for the staff to use in future drills or actual disaster situations. The program and the work Crush did has received a lot of positive feedback form the hospital staff on the quality of the program content that was implemented by Crush. According to the hospital Crush provided them with a workable plan that is easy to follow but accomplishes the goals that were set up. Crush also set up thorough task lists for each participant involved with a potential disaster as well as a list of things to be accomplished for the successful implementation and follow through of the plan. Crush also assisted with helping the staff to organize the equipment. The Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club who sponsors the monthly event honored Captain Sherry Crush at a breakfast on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Tiny Diny Restaurant. ###
