Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org APARTMENT FIRE RULED ACCIDENTAL Investigators with Mobile Fire-Rescue Department have determined a fire that occurred Tuesday, April 8 at 1406 Springhill Avenue and Cottage Drive to be accidental. The fire was reported at approximately 12:15 p.m. Firefighters arrived shortly after and reported smoke coming from the rear of the two-story, wood frame structure. Firefighter made entry and extinguished the fire before it could spread any further. The fire originated in the rear of the structure in what appeared to be a utility room of a downstairs apartment. There was some minor fire extension into an adjacent bedroom with varying degrees of heat and smoke throughout the downstairs area. Investigators discovered multiple electrical extension cords that had large appliances plugged into them thus causing an electrical overload and causing the fire to occur. Property damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 3, 8, 15, truck 17, rescue 24 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded. ###
