Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org APARTMENT FIRE AT WILLOW CREEK II Mobile firefighters responded to an apartment fire Monday morning, March 30 at approximately 6:46 a.m. at the Willow Creek II Apartments, 271 Hillcrest Road. When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported heavy smoke showing from the roof of the building. Firefighters encountered fire in a downstairs apartment where the fire was kept contained. The fire originated in the dryer in laundry room of the downstairs apartment. The female occupant told fire investigators that she had been drying some clothes earlier this morning. The male occupant awoke to smoke and went to investigate; as he approached the kitchen he encountered smoke and saw fire inside the dryer full of towels. He escaped unharmed. Two other apartments had very minor smoke damage and another received some water damage. Engines 15, 22, 16; truck 5; rescue 22 and District Chief John Young responded. ###
