Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-7163/Fax: (251) 208-5843 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ANNUAL MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY “FILL THE BOOT” DRIVE Beginning Friday, October 7, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will join firefighters across the nation and partner with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) in a great cause and a coordinated effort to raise money for research, victim support and work towards finding a cure for this debilitating disease. MD is a group of muscle diseases that result in increasing weakening and breakdown of skeletal muscles over time. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease that affects millions; many of which are children. Mobile Fire-Rescue will hold its “Fill the Boot” drive at several Walmart locations around the city. The dates and times for the boot drive are: October 7-8; October 14-15 and October 21-22 The times will be from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. October is also Fire Prevention month and Cancer Awareness Month. Mobile Fire-Rescue will be setting up an additional table at each location with fire safety coloring books and home safety checklists for those that stop by. There will also be order forms available for anyone wishing to purchase the departments “Fighting for a Cure” cancer t-shirts. ###
