The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department (MFRD) proudly announces Firefighter/EMT Ann Williams as the December 2021 Firefighter of the Month. Firefighter Williams began her career with MFRD in October 1995 as a Firefighter.
After completing and graduating the challenging course work and physical demands of the Mobile Fire–Rescue Department’s Recruit Fire Training Academy, Firefighter Williams’ assignment marked history as the first African-American woman to serve as a firefighter for the City of Mobile. She not only broke barriers locally, but she was also one of the first to nationally pioneer women in the fire service.
Williams is passionate in her service, possessing an extraordinary amount of compassion for Mobile citizens and first responders alike. Through years of experience, Firefighter Williams has become a well of wisdom, which she readily shares through mentoring firefighters of all levels.
Her unwavering devotion to extraordinary service and her willingness to mentor firefighters has earned her the respect of her peers. Her commitment to any task that is assigned and her willingness to be a positive influence in any atmosphere, at any time, in any situation are only a few reasons why Firefighter Williams is a beacon of excellence in the fire service.
Williams' positive perception and unmatched work ethic undoubtedly have a direct impact on the success of the MFRD. Her experience, knowledge, and skills exceed the high standards of the profession.
