Test Smoke Alarms During
Daylight Saving Time
Mobile, AL - The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department reminds the public to change the batteries in their in-home smoke alarms (and carbon monoxide detectors). Smoke alarms should be tested monthly to ensure proper function, while fresh batteries should be installed twice annually. Daylight Saving Time serves as the prime opportunity to test and update smoke alarms while resetting clocks and watches. Mobile Fire-Rescue stresses the importance of home safety and fire prevention. Working smoke alarms have been proven to save lives.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department offers fire prevention and education intervention programs to all citizens through our Public Education Division and Bureau of Fire Prevention. Community Risk Reduction is the targeted implementation of education and strategies to reduce risk in the community based on specific areas that may put citizens in danger. MFRD has expanded its partnership with the Mobile Chapter of the American Red Cross in order to provide free Home Safety Survey, which include fire education and prevention strategies, and offering to install smoke alarms and detector devices in homes to help reduce risk of death and injury.
For more information on Home Safety Surveys and Smoke Alarm Programs, citizens should call Mobile Fire-Rescue Department at (251) 208-5555.
