Mobile Firefighters Assisting Santa With Annual Delivery

Dec 20th, 2007

December 20, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2007-89) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE FIREFIGHTERS ASSISTING SANTA WITH ANNUAL DELIVERY Mobile Firefighters will be assisting Santa with his annual Christmas dinner and gift delivery to the residents of Mulherin Custodial Home. Santa is scheduled to arrive at the home, located at 2496 Halls Mill Road, at 9 a.m. Christmas Eve morning, December 24. The Mobile Firefighters Association once again teamed up with the popular band Three Doors Down to purchase the gifts for the residents. Members of Three Doors Down donated approximately $8,600 and the Mobile Firefighters Association raised approximately $2,000 to purchase gifts for the residents. An interesting sidebar is a story of unselfishness about a young man by the name of Tyler McIlwain, 13, a student at Causey Middle School. Tyler asked his mother, Carole, if he could have a birthday party (which took place on November 10) and invite his friends. Tyler was not interested in receiving any presents for himself; he just wanted to have a party with his friends. Carole contacted members of the Mobile Firefighters Association and asked if they participated in any Christmas Charities, at which time she was told about the annual event at the Mulherin Custodial Home. Tyler requested that his guests not bring him any presents but instead bring a Christmas present to be given to the residents of Mulherin Home. Therefore, Tyler will also be joining Santa and the firefighters in making the delivery. ###
