Mobile Fire-Rescue Promotes Fireworks Safety for the Fourth

Jul 1st, 2024

Mobile, Ala. — Mobile Fire-Rescue Department urges all to celebrate the Independence Day holiday safely this year. We strongly encourage you to attend fireworks displays presented by professionals, such as the Independence Day Extravaganza at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

July 3rd and July 4th are the only days where fireworks are allowed in the City of Mobile. If you do choose to use fireworks, please make sure to follow instructions and use them as intended. Make sure to follow these tips:

  • Always have adult supervision
  • Light fireworks away from dry grass, buildings and other flammable materials
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby in case of a fire
  • Once the firework’s fuse is lit, keep your distance
  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Do not attempt to relight or pick up misfired fireworks
  • Remember to always light fireworks outdoors
  • Do not use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Never hold lit fireworks in your hand
  • Do not point fireworks at a person or building
  • Be courteous and considerate of your neighbors and consider the time of day
  • Keep pets away from fireworks

Fireworks started an estimated 31,302 fires in 2022, including 3,504 structure fires and 887 vehicle fires. These fires caused an estimated six civilian deaths, 44 civilian injuries and $109 million in direct property damage, according to the National Fire Protection Association Research Division. In that same year, more than 10,000 people were treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s 2022 Fireworks Annual Report.

Stay safe. In case of emergency, call 911.
