Mobile Fire-Rescue Explorers Winners at Competition

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org MOBILE FIRE-RESCUE EXPLORERS WINNERS AT COMPETITION Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Explorers competed against twenty-two teams at the Seventh Annual Fire Explorer Competition on Saturday, April 10, 2010, in Trussville, Alabama located just northeast of Birmingham. Mobile Fire-Rescue Explorer Team 2 won first place in the Bunker Gear Relay, with Team 3 wining third place in the Bunker Gear Relay. The Bunker Gear Relay was a timed event where each team member had to put on all of their fire gear as quickly as possible and then proceed through an obstacle course. The course consisted of hose carry, hydrant connection, crawling through a tunnel, climbing out a window, dragging a charged line, carrying two 5 gallon buckets of foam, crawling across rafters, dragging a truck tire, firefighter equipment recognition, and sledge hammer station. Once they completed the course the next member began their run. When all 4 members completed the course the time clock stopped. Explorers also competed in CPR and Patient Movement, Ladder Raise, Motor Vehicle Collision, and Room Search. The Room Search station required team members to enter a blacked out smoke simulator and search for a victim. Once the search team exited the building, the hose team made entry and put out a simulated fire. Congratulations to all of our Fire Explorers for a job well done. Participating Explorers were: Codey Faircloth, Brandon Dennis, Jeffery Boddie, Jessica Lewis, Brandon Parden, Frances Ramsay, Ethan Cantin, Eric Jackson Jr., Myles Langley, Jakob Hudson, and Wesley Shelton. This year’s advisors were, Captain Todd Norsworthy, Captain Philip Ballard, Captain Shaun Hicks, and Kelly Hicks. Special thanks to Firefighter James Stallings, the crew of Engine 6 Second Shift for their assistance in preparing the Explorers for competition and the many individuals who made this trip a success.
