MOBILE, Ala. – The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department proudly announces Fire Service Captain Michael Chestang as the February 2020 Firefighter of the Month. A 4th-generation City of Mobile firefighter, Captain Chestang started his career in service in February 2001.
Captain Michael Chestang has been a great asset to MFRD with assisting in the Public Safety Course. This course teaches students to understand all the aspects of being a firefighter.
Even before promoting to the rank of Captain, Chestang presented himself as a firefighter worthy of the lead, with a voice capable of effecting positive change. For years, Captain Chestang has shown exceptional supervisory skills in developing and promoting a climate of shared motivation and participation.
The same climate has been forged at LeFlore High School, where Captain Chestang - a LeFlore alumn – and his crew have volunteered hours and days of service in teaching approximately 300 students fire safety, firefighting skills, and aspects of life as first responders.
Michael Chestang continues to perform his regular duties as Captain on Engine 14 while also creating new opportunities for students at LeFlore High School; thus, he simultaneously protects the City of Mobile while actively promoting positive change for its future, particularly in the Toulminville community.
