MFRD TESTING PILOT PROGRAM DURING FIREWORKS SHOW
Mobile Fire-Rescue Department will be testing a pilot program on the water during the City’s fireworks show on Friday evening, July 4.
“Marine 2” a Rigid-Hulled Inflatable (RHI) boat with a crew of 3-4 personnel will be on Dog River at approximately 6:00 p.m. until approximately 11:30 p.m. to provide emergency response and other assistance as needed.
The RHI boat will be equipped with medical equipment in the event there is a need during that time.
Fireboat 2, The Phoenix, will be standing by as usual in the area of where the fireworks are fired during the same time frame.
After the fireworks show the RHI Boat will be staged at Station 11 on Broad Street and will respond to marine emergencies in and around the community in support of fire boat 2.
Marine 2 was purchased over eight years ago by a water front company as a condition of an EPA fine, given to the department and was placed in storage. The boat was recently removed from storage and repaired so the department could begin using it for marine emergencies.
