MOBILE, Ala. – Firefighters with the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department once again joined Mulherin Home for their annual, holiday shopping spree. The Mulherin Home’s mission is to provide a family environment filled with happiness, comfort, and good welfare for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Christmas came early for approximately 21 residents as they ventured to Sam’s Club on the I-65 Service Road, where they were joined for the shopping extravaganza by on-and-off-duty firefighters and civilians from The Jake Peavy Foundation, Spring Hill College, and more.
Since 2004, The Better Life Foundation, charitable outlet of rock band 3 Doors Down, has sponsored the event, allowing Mulherin residents a budget of $200 each for spending needs. The Jake Peavy Foundation regularly offers support through the funding of gifts, as well.
Residents provided the shopping lists and were greeted by at least 1 firefighter/volunteer with shopping carts, as they teamed-up in search of holiday treats and necessities, such as clothing and shoes, before ending their spree with breakfast and a visit from Santa.
Each residents’ purchased items were labeled, packaged, and boxed separately prior to being transported back to Mulherin Home, where they will be wrapped and ready for Christmas.
