LUSANN DRIVE UTILITY ROOM FIRE
Mobile Firefighters were called to a fire located at 5300 Lusann Drive early Tuesday morning, March 15, 2005. The call was received from the owner at approximately 5:13 a.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene to report heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the one-story, wood frame, brick veneer structure.
The fire appears to have originated in the attached utility room in the rear of the residence and appears to have started in the area of the electric clothes dryer. The occupant, Herdon Deming, told Mobile Fire Investigators that the dryer was last used at around 10:30 p.m. Monday evening. The occupant also stated there had been a lamp that had been in the "on" position sitting above the dryer. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Deming also told investigators he was alerted by the smoke and got his wife and son out of the house without apparent injury.
The fire, which caused an estimated $30 thousand in damage, extended to the kitchen and exterior of the structure.
Engines 15, 18, 22, truck 5, rescue 18 and District 3 Chief John D. Young responded to the call.
