Jul 11th, 2008

July 11, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2008-57) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org LOCAL CHARTER BUS BUSINESS RECEIVES FIRE DAMAGE Firefighters were dispatched to a call at approximately 5 a.m. Friday morning, July 11 reporting a fire at 2328 St. Stephens Road. Firefighters arrived at approximately 5:05 a.m. and discovered fire and smoke coming from the second floor of a two-story wood frame structure in the rear of Wrights Charter Bus Service. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly before it spread from the second floor. The structure, best described as a garage apartment, was being used as a storage area, for cleaning supplies, fluids for buses, among other things in the lower half and the second floor was used as a resting area for drivers and the cleaning staff who are waiting for buses to come in late at night and need to be cleaned up. No one was in the structure at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The fire, which caused an estimated $80 thousand in property damage, appears to have started on the second floor near a sofa and was confined to that area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious at this time. Engines 8, 14, 21, truck 17, rescue 14 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded. ###
