Fire Chief Johnny Morris, Jr. was officially sworn into office at an investiture ceremony held in Mobile Government Plaza’s Ceremonial Courtroom on Friday, January 5, 2024.
Family, friends, coworkers, and others gathered for the ceremony, which included remarks from Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, Mobile City Council President C.J. Small, Executive Director of Public Safety Robert Lasky, and Morris himself. Judge Vicki Davis administered the oath, and Pastor Amos Barnes, Jr. gave the invocation and benediction at the ceremony.
Morris, who most recently served as MFRD Chief of Staff, played an integral role in making MFRD one of only nine fire departments in the nation with an Insurance Services Office ISO-1 rating, Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) accreditation and Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) accreditation.
Morris joined the department in 1990, and throughout his career, he has held leadership roles within multiple divisions of MFRD.
During his remarks today, Morris said he hopes to increase MFRD’s presence in non-emergency situations and foster more positive, everyday interactions with citizens.
“Be nice, do good, and you will make a difference,” he added.
