March 23, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2009-19) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE HEAVILY DAMAGED BY FIRE A fire heavily damaged a single story, brick structure located at 6980 Ching Lynch Road, Monday, March 23. The call was received by Mobile Fire-Rescue Operators at approximately 10:25 a.m. and firefighters arrived at approximately 10:34 a.m. reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure. When firefighters forced entry into the structure one of the family pets (dog) dashed out of the structure. Firefighters later discovered a second dog and brought it out to safety where Firemedics gave the pet some oxygen. Both pets reportedly were fine and with the owners when firefighters were leaving the scene. The fire appears to have originated in the attic and was caused by electrical wiring. The fire caused an estimated $150 thousand in damage to both the structure and contents. No injuries were reported. Engines 1, 15, 18, 29, truck 5, rescue 1 and District Chief Dexter Pettaway responded to the incident. The fire is being investigated by the Mobile Fire Marshal’s Office. ###
