House Fire Injures One Firefighter at 1308 Olive Street

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org HOUSE FIRE INJURES ONE FIREFIGHTER AT 1308 OLIVE STREET Mobile firefighters were called to the report of a house fire located at 1308 Olive Street today, Thursday, December 21, 2006. The call was received by a neighbor at approximately 12:10 p.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene at approximately 12:13 p.m. reporting heavy fire and smoke coming from the side of a 2 story, wood frame structure. The fire appears to have originated from an outside attached utility room and spread under the carport and outside wall of the main house. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire before it was able to breach the inside of the structure. The owner, Eoline Stoutamire, 71, was not home at the time of fire but was notified by relatives and later arrived on the scene. One firefighter, Daniel Sprinkle, 22, received 2nd degree burns to both hands and was transported to Springhill Medical Hospital for treatment. The fire appears to have originated in the utility room and is being ruled by Mobile Fire Investigators an accidental electrical fire. It appears the fire was caused by old/faulty wiring. Damage is estimated at approximately $20 thousand. No other injuries were reported. Engines 2, 9, 11, truck 24, rescue 24 and District 1 Chief Frank Byrd responded to the fire. ###
