HOUSE FIRE CLAIMS ONE VICTIM; SECOND ESCAPES
Mobile firefighters were called to a residential fire with one trapped, located on Green Aly, at approximately 12:35 a.m. Tuesday, February 4. When firefighters arrived at the single story wood frame structure they reported heavy fire coming from the front of the structure including the attic and porch.
Firefighters knocked down the main body of fire enabling a second crew to make entry to locate the victim.
Firefighters entered into the kitchen area and forced a bedroom door open where they located the 53-year-old male occupant faced down on the floor. He was quickly removed from the structure and placed in the care of firemedics on scene who transported him to USAMC where he later died from his injuries.
The victim’s mother escaped without apparent injury and refused any treatment from firemedics on the scene.
The fire appears to have originated in a front room of the house. Heavy fire and smoke damage occurred throughout. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but all indications are that it was accidental-unintentional.
Damage is estimated at approximately $34 thousand.
Engines 3, 14, 21; truck 4; rescues 3 and 14 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded to the fire.
The Bureau of Fire Prevention is conducting the investigation.
