Arson Arrest
MOBILE, Ala. – At approximately 01:18 hours on March 1, 2019, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department crews responded to Hart’s Fried Chicken at 2951 SpringHill Avenue for a reported “outside fire” at the rear of building. The fire was quickly extinguished, causing minimal damage (estimated around $5,000) to the exterior wall of the structure and gas meter. Cause of Origin Investigators were requested to scene to investigate suspicious circumstances.
Surveillance footage from the business revealed a person of interest in the area at the time of the fire. MFRD Investigators were able to identify a potential suspect wanted for questioning regarding the incident. Thanks to local media and the public’s assistance in providing information, the suspect was recognized and identified. Mobile Police Department officers were able to locate and detain the suspect for questioning with Mobile Fire-Rescue Investigators.
On the morning of March 9, 2019, Demetrius Antonio Murphy (D.O.B. Feb. 28, 1991) was arrested and charged with Arson 2nd for his involvement in the commercial building fire.
