FUNERAL SERVICES FOR CAPTAIN SAMUEL W. DOWNING
Mobile Fire-Rescue Department’s Captain Samuel (Sam) W. Downing, 45, a veteran with the department for over 21 years, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 from an apparent heart attack. Downing died shortly after arriving home after having worked a 24 hour shift with the department. Downing was assigned as a shift supervisor for Engine 15 and the Hazardous Material Response Team at Gus Rehm Fire Station located at 3200 Moffat Road at Western Drive.
Wake will be Tuesday, July 3 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home located at 3155 Dauphin Street.
Wednesday, July 4 there will be a procession leaving Radney’s on Dauphin at 10 a.m. to Wilmer United Methodist Church on Avenue B in Wilmer, AL.
Services will be at the Church at 11 a.m. with internment to follow at Wilmer Cemetery.
Downing will be buried with full fire service honors.
