Fire Investigators Make Arrest in Brentwood Lane Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE INVESTIGATORS MAKE ARREST IN BRENTWOOD LANE FIRE Fire Investigators with Mobile Fire-Rescue Department have arrested Kenneth Ray of Midtown Mobile and have charged him with Arson 2nd Degree in connection with a fire that occurred Saturday, August 15 in the 5000 block of Brentwood Lane. The fire was reported at approximately 2:06 a.m. and caused an estimated $22 thousand in damage. When firefighters arrived they at the single story, wood frame house they discovered light smoke coming from the attic area. Firefighters forced entry through the front door and encountered heavy smoke and multiple smoldering fires inside. The occupant was not home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported. A neighbor told fire investigators that they saw a man enter their yard and he told them the house across the street was on fire. The witnesses later identified Ray as that person. When Ray was questioned about the fire he confessed to Fire Investigators that he had set the fires. ###
