November 5, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2008-75) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE TRAILER Firefighters from Mobile Fire-Rescue and Theodore Volunteer Fire Department’s responded to a trailer on fire located at 5140 Quimby Drive off Three Notch Road Wednesday morning, November 5. The call was received at approximately 8:09 a.m. reporting someone burned and firefighters arrived at approximately 8:10 a.m. reporting heavy fire and smoke showing from the trailer. Firemedics discovered the victim had no burns or other injuries but she appeared to be impaired by either drugs or alcohol. Firemedics transported her to Mobile Infirmary West for observation. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire quickly. The trailer is owned by Rodney D. LaBit and is rented and occupied by Cindy Warrick, 51. Warrick told Mobile Fire Investigators she awoke this morning because she was having difficulty breathing, when Warrick awoke she discovered smoke in her bedroom. Warrick then made her way to her friends, Donna Paton, 43, bedroom to make sure she was aware of the fire. Warrick told investigators when she entered Paton’s room the bed was on fire with Paton still laying in it. She assisted Paton getting up and out of the trailer. Both LaBit and Warrick verified that Paton was a heavy drug user. The fire appears to have originated in the front bedroom near or on the bed. The fire, which caused an estimated $3 thousand in damage (total loss), is being ruled accidental caused by smoking in bed. No injuries were reported. Engines 6, 7, 19, truck 24, rescue 6 and 7, District Chief Elbert Cross and Theodore Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. ###
