Fire Damages Building and Two Vehicles

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-5806/Fax: (251) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FIRE DAMAGES BUILDING AND TWO VEHICLES Mobile Fire Investigators are working to determine what caused a fire located at 1900 Airport Boulevard early Thursday morning, October 19, 2006. The fire was reported at approximately 2:23 a.m. at a vacant building formerly housing a florist. The building was up for sale and may have been sold already. Firefighters arrived on the scene at approximately 2:27 a.m. and reported a vacant commercial building and two vehicles heavily involved with fire and a second building beginning to ignite. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire in the building while others worked to extinguish a fire on a fence and the two vehicles between the two buildings. Firefighters also worked to protect the second building from fire exposure. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Damage for the building is estimated at $75 thousand, no damage estimate on the vehicles available at this time. No injuries were reported. Engines 8, 9, 23, truck 17, rescue 23 and District 1 Chief Martin Stanley responded to the fire. Units cleared the scene at approximately 4:47 a.m. ###
