Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (334) 208-5806/Fax: (334) 208-5813 E-Mail: huffman@ci.mobile.al.us FIRE AT KELLOGG, BROWN AND ROOT COMPANY An employee for Kellogg, Brown and Root Company discovered smoke in the large two-story building and notified the switchboard operator to call 911 today, Thursday, September 7, 2000. The two-story masonry building is located at 2970 Cottage Hill Road. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department received the call at approximately 11:54 a.m. with first firefighters arriving at approximately 11:58 a.m. The fire appears to have originated in the first floor maintenance/storage area where firefighters were able to keep the fire confined. There was heavy smoke damage throughout the first and second floors of the East wing of the building. The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $50 thousand in damage, remains under investigation. Mobile Fire Investigators are looking at a quartz floodlight that appears to have been plugged in in the area of the fire origin. Aerosol cans of paint and bug spray and insulation was among the items being stored in the area. No injuries were reported. The company had just recently conducted a fire drill and escaped without incident. Engines 12, 15, 19, 23, truck 10, rescue 23 and District 4 Chief Harold Miller responded. ###
