Fire at Asher Point Independent Living

Jun 7th, 2024

Apartment Fire

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched  to an apartment fire at Asher Point Independent Living of Mobile at 650 University Boulevard at 11 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama.

Crews arrived on scene to see smoke and flames visible from an exterior area first-story roof in the three-story complex.

The fire, which had partially extended up the exterior of the building, was extinguished quickly, with fire damage isolated to a small area.

Smoke had spread into the building, though, so additional personnel were called to help safely evacuate all 89 residents. Some were evaluated on scene by paramedics, but no transports were made by MFRD ambulances.

Family members picked up some of the residents. Others waited outside as firefighters set up ventilation fans to clear the building of smoke.

At about 1:30, the facility was turned back over to building maintenance. Personnel from MFRD and Mobile Police Department assisted residents back to their rooms.

Engine 22, District 2, Engine 18, Engine 6, Rescue 22, Truck 24, Truck 5, District 4, Engine 19, Rehab 1 and Car 80 were dispatched to the call.

No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation at this time. Until recently, the facility was known as University Oaks Independent Living.
