February Firefighter of the Month

Mar 12th, 2008

March 12, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (SH2008-17) FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION R. Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org FEBRUARY FIREFIGHTER OF THE MONTH Firefighter Dale Broome, 58, who has over eleven years on the department as been, selected the Mobile Fire-Rescue Departments February Firefighter of the Month. District Chief Melvin Stringfellow wrote in his nomination letter, “Since being transferred to the Training Academy I have witnessed a remarkable demonstration of the human spirit.” Broome has been in a fight for his life battling cancer. As soon as he had gained enough strength to return to work he came back on an alternate work schedule; he has been temporarily assigned to the Training Academy and has done far more than could ever be expected of a man who just a few short months ago was fighting to stay alive. Broome has been available and ready to act when needed around the training center, running errands, cleaning up, hanging dry erase boards, putting together furniture and anything else that needs to be done and he can assist in doing. During hose testing Captain Walt Riley had to tell Broome to slow down because he feared Broome was trying to do too much. Broome does all of this with a positive attitude and in a cheerful manner. Broome has set an exemplary example of how we should all approach our daily work life and is well deserving of this recognition. The program is sponsored by the Pleasant Valley Opportunity Club and the award was presented on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Tiny Diny Restaurant. ###
