The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Firefighters/Firemedics work a 24/48 shift. This means that personnel report to work at 7:00 A.M. the day of their assigned shift and continue working until 7:00 A.M. the following morning. Personnel then have the following two days off or 48 hours off. Firefighters work 56 hours a week and 10 days a month with opportunities; to work overtime.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department also has 40-hour personnel who work in Training, Logistics, EMS, Code Enforcement, and Public Education. These positions are usually filled after a firefighter has served on a shift and/or receives a promotion.
