Early Morning Fire Heavily Damages House

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org EARLY MORNING FIRE HEAVILY DAMAGES HOUSE Mobile Fire-Rescue units responded to a house fire located at 2601 Morningside Drive early Tuesday morning, February 23. The call was received at approximately 3:47 a.m. and firefighters reported heavy fire coming from all sides of the single story, brick structure upon arrival. All the occupants (two adults and one child) escaped without apparent injury. Despite the amount of fire involved, firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control and knock down the flames. The fire appears to have originated in one of the bedrooms and spread throughout the structure including the attic causing an estimated $65 thousand in damage to the structure and its contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. Engines 9, 16, 19, truck 24, rescue 24 and District Chief Elbert Cross responded. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating. ###
