CONTEST WINNERS PRESENTATION
On Friday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m. Mobile Fire-Rescue and the local Firehouse Subs Restaurants will be making a special presentation to the faculty and students at Griggs Elementary School located at 6001 Three Notch Road.
Griggs Elementary is this year’s winner of the Firehouse Subs "Check your Smoke Alarm Contest". Students will be given free fire helmets and kids meal cards and faculty members will be served a sub sandwich platter lunch.
Ten schools participated in the contest where 10 thousand children took home cards that asked the parents to check their smoke alarms and have a home fire drill. Parents were to complete the tasks, sign the card and return it to school. The school with the highest percentage of returned cards was declared the winner.
It is estimated that 1/3 of the homes in Mobile County do not currently have working smoke alarms. When parents participate in this program and correct missing smoke alarm batteries they will be more prepared if a fire occurs in their home.
This is the 5th year for the contest and all expenses are donated by the local Firehouse Subs Restaurants.
