DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION CREW HIT GAS LINE
A construction crew installing fiber optic cable underground struck and cut a 2 inch gas line on Monday, August 7, 2000 at around 3 p.m. The backhoe digging a hole at the corner of Conti and Conceptions Streets struck the 2 inch line causing natural gas to release. Mobile Police blocked Conti Street from St. Emanuel to Joachim Streets and Conception Street from Dauphin to Government Streets for approximately one hour. Crews from Mobile Gas Company were called to the scene and had the leak stopped within 10 minutes of arrival. Mobile Gas Company remained on the scene to repair the broken pipe. No injuries occurred.
