Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched at 6:36 a.m. for a report of a commercial building fire at the Mitchell Center on the University of South Alabama campus at 5950 Old Shell Road in Mobile, Alabama, Thursday, July 11, 2024.
Units arrived on scene and a light haze was reported, prompting more units to be dispatched. Crews searched for any sign of fire and found none, but noted the source of the smoke as a possible electrical issue in an air handler. Power was shut off.
Crews will return to service as soon as personnel ensure there are no other fires or additional dangers associated with the incident.
