Christmas Fire at Courtyard Apartments

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department firefighters were dispatched at about 7:19 Christmas morning for a report of an apartment fire at Courtyard Apartments in the 3200 block of Pleasant Valley Road in Mobile, Alabama, Wednesday, December 25, 2024.

Units arrived on the scene to find heavy smoke showing from second-floor apartments. Firefighters made entry into the building to extinguish the fire.

Primary and secondary searches to look for anyone inside were all clear of victims, but firefighters assisted one resident in a wheelchair out of the building. Crews also rescued two cats and one dog from inside.

After the fire was extinguished, crews performed salvage and overhaul operations to ensure undamaged property was protected. They remained on the scene to ensure that all hotspots were extinguished, and an investigation of the scene was done by the on-duty investigator.

Six apartments out of the 16 in the building were damaged enough that they can’t be occupied. Eleven people from six families were displaced by the fire, with the Red Cross helping those in need of assistance.

The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.

District 3 and 1 Chiefs, Engines 23, 16, 19, 12, and 22, Trucks 17 and 24, Car 80, and Rehab 1 were all dispatched to the incident. No injuries were reported.
