1:48 p.m. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department units were dispatched for a report of a fire at the Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel & Spa at 26 North Royal Street in downtown Mobile, Alabama, Friday afternoon, February 9, 2024.
Workers had called emergency services when a small fire was ignited while doing roof work on the 8th floor terrace at the front of the building. Smoke spread into the building via an elevator shaft adjacent to the work area.
Mobile Fire-Rescue Department arrived on scene noting nothing visible from the exterior, but smoke was visible in the lobby. Crews immediately entered the building to make sure the fire was extinguished and there had been no extension into any adjacent areas.
At the terrace, personnel found where a fire extinguisher had been used to extinguish the fire prior to the department's arrival.
No extension of fire was found. Smoke was cleared from the building. No one was injured in the incident.
