Auto Repair Shop Damaged by Fire

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org AUTO REPAIR SHOP DAMAGED BY FIRE Firefighters responded to a fire at the “Shack - The Auto Doctor”, located at 1250 Arlington Street, on Monday morning, December 27. The fire was reported at approximately 9:15 a.m. Firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story, concrete block building upon arrival. The business was closed at the time of the fire and firefighters, using power saws, cut into the metal roll- up doors to gain entry into the structure and contain the fire. The fire appears to have originated in the shop area and caused by an extension cord that boards were lying on top of causing heat to build up thus causing the fire. Damage is estimated $75 thousand. No injuries were reported. Engines 2, 9, 11, truck 24, rescue 24 and District Chief David Rose responded to the call. The fire is being investigated by the Bureau of Fire Prevention. ###
