Attic Fire Caused by Electrical Problem

Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ATTIC FIRE CAUSED BY ELECTRICAL PROBLEM Firefighters were dispatched to a fire in the attic of a single story, wood frame residence located at 2062 Gimon Circle, North, early Thursday morning, December 3. The called was received at approximately 4:34 a.m. and firefighters arrived shortly after at approximately 4:41 a.m. The occupants escaped without apparent injury after smelling smoke and calling 9-1-1. Firefighters located the source of the fire in the attic of the structure and quickly extinguished it. While in the course of fighting the fire firefighters were turning off the utilities and broke a natural gas line at the structures meter. The house next door from the fire was evacuated as a precaution. Mobile Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical problem in the attic. Damage is estimated at approximately $15 thousand. Engines 8, 9, 16, truck 24, rescue 24 and District Chief Aubrey Bishop responded to the call. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating. ###
