Steve Huffman Public Information Officer (251) 208-2857/Fax: (251) 208-2861 E-Mail: huffman@cityofmobile.org ARSON FIRE ON BRUSSELLS STREET, SUSPECT ARRESTED Mobile firefighters responded to a report of a house fire at 1250 Brussells Street after midnight today, Wednesday, October 7. The call was received by Mobile Fire-Rescue Dispatchers at approximately 12:24 a.m. reporting a house fire with five children inside who were possibly trapped and that a male was walking through setting things on fire. When firefighters arrived at approximately 12:31 a.m. they reported a small fire in the yard of the one-story, wood frame structure which was quickly extinguished. A large crowd began to gather in the front yard and porch and was becoming violent with each other and firefighters called for Mobile Police to assist with the crowd. Officers held the suspect, Ronald Lucky, 22 until Mobile Fire Investigators arrived on the scene. Fire investigators also found evidence of small fires inside the structure; all had been extinguished by the occupants prior to arrival. Lucky, who suffers from mental illness, had apparently set some clothing on fire. He had also set a fire in a trash can on the front porch which had been kicked into the yard. Damage was minor and estimated at approximately $1,500. Lucky was taken to Mobile County Metro Jail where he is being charged with Arson 1st Degree because the structure was occupied. Lucky was an occupant of the house and is the son of one of the occupants. No injuries were reported. Engines 2, 9, 16, truck 24, rescues 23 and 24 and District Chief Frank Byrd responded. Mobile Fire-Rescue’s Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating. ###
