MOBILE, Ala. - At approximately 00:56 hours, Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies responded to 1100 Arlington Street for reports of a home on fire in the area. Upon arrival on scene (00:59), fire personnel described the home as "fully-involved," with thick smoke and flames visible. Fire scene operations were immediately established, as tasks were delegated to arriving companies.
Fire suppression teams pushed back flames, while search & rescue units swept through the home in search of trapped or injured occupants. Two residents were discovered just outside of the home with varying degrees of injuries.
An approximately 73-year-old female patient was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and possible respiratory burns. Subsequently, medical personnel treated a 65-year-old male who suffered significant 2nd-degree and 3rd-degree burns to approximately 45% of his body. MFRD medical teams provided adequate emergency care to both injured residents and transported to a local hospital, with the male victim in critical condition.
Firefighters successfully extinguished all signs of fire within approximately 35-minutes of arriving on scene. A Mobile firefighter sustained superficial burn injuries during the incident and was a transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
